About

Victoria BernalVictoria Bernal chronicles Los Angeles and its history through social media (now mostly on Bluesky and Threads), audio stories, walking tours, online articles and her own Instagram. With over 130 years of family history in Southern California, Victoria developed a love of Los Angeles history while listening to so many family members share their stories of Los Angeles “back in the day.” Her favorite storyteller was her mother, who wrote about the region for Sunset Magazine from 1960s – 1980s before spending the next 25 years at the Huntington Library.

  1. Hi Victoria, I heard a podcast with you covering Sunset Magazine. I have been a Sunset subscriber for years and years and it saddens me greatly (well, as far as a failing publication can make one sad) that Sunset is now struggling. I heard they are down to ~25 staff members and the one remaining editor quit. This present staff level is compared to over 200 staff at one point in the not too distant past. In any case, thanks for mentioning and advocating for the value of Sunset, it is a treasure of the West. And, yes, it is still needed. If you ever hear of a subscriber buy-out of the current firm that owns it (they paid only $20m), I am willing to invest my 30+ years in marketing to help make that happen. 🙂

    Best regards,
